Antagonism of imipramine induced fatal hyperpyrexia in MAO inhibitor treated rabbits.

چکیده
Extensive use of monoamine oxidase inhibitors and imipramine in psychiatric practice has revealed serious toxic reactions. It has been observed that combination of monoamine oxidase inhibitor and imipramine produces a symptom complex characterized by hyperexcitement, motor restlessness and hyperpyrexia (1-6). Furthermore, hypertensive crisis, subarachnoid haemorrhage and pulmonary oedema has been reported to occur in patients who were maintained on monoamine oxidase inhibitor and took cheese or broad beans (7 , 8). High contents of tyramine in cheese and 3-4 dihydroxyphenylalanine (dopa) in broad beans have been sug gested to be responsible for the above mentioned serious side effects. Since it is known that in MAO inhibitor pretreated animals administration of both, tyramine and dopa increase circulating catecholamine content

Influence of pretreatment with a monoamine oxidase inhibitor (phenelzine) on the effects of buprenorphine and pethidine in the conscious rabbit.
The existence of a severe toxic interaction (occasionally fatal) from the clinical use of pethidine and monoamine oxidase (MAO) inhibitors is well established. The present study evaluates the possibility of such an interaction existing for the opioid partial agonist buprenorphine. Conscious rabbits (n = 6 in each group) pretreated 18-24 h previously with physiological saline or the MAO inhibito...
متن کاملAn analysis of the central vasomotor effects of monoamine oxidase inhibitor, modaline sulphate.
Modaline, 2-methyl-3-piperidinopyrazine derivative, was found to inhibit monoamine oxidase (MAO) (1, 2) and showed therapeutic anti-depressant activity (3). This compound potentiated convulsions induced by tryptamine and hyperthermia induced by dopa similar to other MAO inhibitors (2). Moreover, it also antagonised reserpine induced hypothermia like imipramine (2). Gylys et al. (4) showed that ...
متن کاملEffect of Imipramine and Ect on Platelet Mao Activity in Depressives
Platelet monoamine Oxidase (MAO) activity was estimated in 30 depressed patients treated with Imipramine or EGT over a period of 5 weeks and pretreatment and post treatment values were compared. Imipramine and ECT caused significant reduction of platelet MAO, which after 7 days washout period comes to the pretreatment level while subjects clinical status l remained unchanged. The percentage blo...
متن کاملThe role of central α-adrenergic receptors on imipramine-induced antinociception as revealed by formalin test in rat
In this study, the effect of α-adrenoceptor agents on imipramine-induced antinociception was investigated using formalin test. Intraperitoneal (i.p.) administration of imipramine at different doses (10-80 mg/kg) induced antinociception in both phases of formalin test. In addition, intracerebroventricular (i.c.v.) injection of imipramine (1, 5, and 10 µg/rat) did not elicit any effect, although ...
متن کاملThe role of GABAB receptors in imipramine-induced antinociception in experimental model of neuropathic pain
This study was designed to investigate the role of GABAB receptor agents on imipramine-induced antinociception in ligated and non-ligated mice using hot-plate test. The data showed that different doses of morphine (3, 6, and 9 mg/kg) induced a dose-dependent antinociception in ligated and non-ligated mice. However, the opioid response was decreased in ligated animals. Intracerebroventricular (i...
